GLO-TOOB Lithium – Strobe Light

Writing about GLO-TOOBs at the end of 2011?
Yes, i am a bit late and i never felt the need for getting one myself. 😎

A few weeks ago i came across an incredible cheap offer, so i seized the chance and got a LITHIUM version for my lights collection.

From GLO-TOOBs website:

Operating for approximately 24 hours in a permanently on condition with a recharge battery and approximately 40 hours with a non-recharge battery, the GLO-TOOB™ LITHIUM is perfectly suited for any dark environment, whether it be camping trips or military use. With its inexpensive, replaceable battery and high impact resistant design, the long lasting LED (Light Emitting Diode) light source is viewable from 360º degrees.

The compact lightweight GLO-TOOB™ LITHIUM is easy to attach to your equipment by means of its stainless steel split ring or detachable lanyard. The GLO-TOOB™ LITHIUM with its 11 MODES and waterproof capabilities can be used in almost any application.

Battery type: CR123A (3v lithium) or recharge Lithium
Weight: 62g or 0.137lbs.
Size: 80mm x 24mm or 3.15″ x 0.95″
Shape: Cylindrical
Colors: Red, Amber, Green, Blue, White, IR
Light source: LED’s – approximately 100,000 hrs life
Battery Life: Approx: 24 – 100 hrs (dependant on Battery make & mode)
Operating Temp.: -10˚ to 80˚ Celsius or 14˚ to 176˚ Fahrenheit
Depth rating: Push button is splash proof. Twist cap 100m + (328 feet +)

Besides using this little strobe in everyday life (bicycling etc.), it`s a perfect addition pimping my helmets and Chest Rigs/ HPCs.

Here are few typical (and famous) pictures showing G-Toobs “in action”:

I decided to go with the most advanced “LITHIUM” version, because it is good to know that you own the top of the line version (yes, i am a fuckin`poser! 😉 ).

I don`t need to talk about every detail, this has been done on many boards and blogs over and over again. But like to say that i really dig the construction of this little fellow and the opportunity to choose between two endcaps.

Left: the protective cap for the unused endcap / Right: Twist Cap

At the moment i am using the push button version:

Let`s take a look inside the tube – clean, sterile, solid!

There are some interesting videos on YouTube, showing different Glo-Toobs and its strobe modes in detail. But i always missed a side by side comparison with other well known lights like the Adventure Lights VIP. I think this is very interesting because it`s hard to guess how bright a Glo-Toob really is! Enjoy! 🙂

Conclusion:
I really like this little fellow and enjoy its different strobe modes.
Many people complain about the tricky programming mode but i had no problems so far (come on guys, it is not rocket science!).
The only thing that bothers me is the VERY smooth turning Twist Cap!
During several evenings of use, i managed to get the strobe mode changed because of an unwanted twist. Of course, this doesn`t happen if you`ll use the Push Button Cap but that lacks the nice ring on top. Using/ wearing/ using Glo-Toobs via lanyards only is a bit annoying and i prefer to have other mounting options.
The different strobe modes are cool but some are too powerless for my liking – especially if you`ll use them in road traffic.

Would i buy it again?
Yes, because i am addicted to strobe lights!
Yeah, i am a Geardo!
Yep, but only if the retail price would be as dead cheap as last time…

  1. This design is incredible! You certainly know how to keep a reader amused.

Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own
blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Great job. I really loved what you had
to say, and more than that, how you presented it.
    Too cool!
