Movies list #3 – Love, Pride, Greed, Hate, Revenge, Death

Here are a few movies I enjoyed in the past, so perhaps something for you, too! 🙂

(If possible, avoid any teasers, trailers, reviews, spoilin` nerds and stupid film geeks talk, to experience the full surprise of sudden twists and funny moments! Also try to see the movies in original language on a big screen + proper sound FX! And get some cold beers!!!)

DRIVE (2011 / Nicolas Winding Refn)

A mysterious Hollywood stuntman, mechanic and getaway driver lands himself in trouble when he helps out his neighbour. Sounds boring? No way! For me still the best movie for almost 9 months now! Amazing colors (so fuckin great!), very deep atmosphere and deluxe!!! camera movement/panning. Mr. Nicolas Winding Refn combined this with a classic story line, nice music, perfect action sequences, fantastic cast and some amazing 2good2Btrue slow motion parts! A love story. A drama. A stunning masterpiece.

THE HUNTER (2011 / Daniel Nettheim)

Martin (Willem Dafoe), a mercenary, is sent from Europe by a mysterious German biotech company to the Tasmanian wilderness on a hunt for the last Tasmanian tiger. A more or less quiet movie, a good cast, superb locations and a strong ending. If you are a bit of a hiker, trapper, lone warrior and conservationist, this might be entertaining! A nice one!

THE ASSAULT (2010 / Julien Leclercq)

Based on a true story, a SWAT team is tasked with storming a high-jacked Air France plane to save its passengers. For all you LE and SWAT enthusiasts, this is a must! Afterwards do yourself a favor and surf the internet for infos and TV footage from the incident – goose bumps guarantee! Amazing how detailed (regarding to the real happening) the film was shot…

THE VETERAN (2011 / Matthew Hope)

A soldier returning from the war in Afghanistan uncovers a conspiracy in his ghetto-slum-backyard-shithole neighborhood. A very comprehensible drama with detailed gun related stuff, captivating atmosphere and a supersuperdope ending – enjoy the reloads!
All available thumbs up – a must see!

RED STATE (2011 / Kevin Smith)

Set in Middle America, a group of teens receive an online invitation for sex, though they soon encounter fundamentalists with a much more sinister agenda…
So far, so good, so WTF! This one was a funny banger (a mixture of WRONG TURN, WICKER MAN, HOSTEL and a road movie!) and with one of the craziest final shootouts seen in a long time. I did not expect this flick to be like that – a great surpise and an entertaining hell of a ride (once again: stay away from long trailers and other spoiling shit)!

Did you remember movies where you really shared feelings with the actor(s)? If you enjoy experiencing fear and hunger for revenge, this one is for you! I can still remember one of my friends shouting out loud (and he had not much beers that evening):
Yes, this is your chance! Get the badass gun over there and blast the fuckers to hell!

Have a good time! 🙂

P.S. RED TAILS and WAR HORSE are still on my to watch list, but I haven`t found the time yet…
